Eyes of Horus
Medium: Canadian and Australian jade
Dimensions: 5.40 x 160 x 150 mm.
Year: 2003
Sold at the Left Bank Art Gallery, Greymouth to a private collector.
Background: The Egyptian God Horus (Hors) is symbolised by two eyes of a giant eagle one representing the moon and the other the sun. In this carving the idea of day and night represent enlightenment, and ignorance or being blinded to the truth. The two coloured jades enhance this idea of opposites.
