Background: The words on the surface of this piece are, Pakeha, a descendant of dis-placed and dis-located European settlers and on the inside are the words Tauiwi, no iwi. Tauiwi is the Maori word for foreign tribe and is sometimes used to distinguish non-Maori from Maori. Tau is pronounced like the English word toe and therefore tauiwi, no iwi rhymes and sounds like a taunt. The hyphenation of the words dis-placed and dis-located accentuates the sense of division.

This art work reflects my response to my journey of discovery that I embarked with my Master of Fine Art study. I think I share a feeling with many Pakeha.of displacement and of not quite belonging to this place.

I selected Italian marble to represent Europeans I have have done throughout this body of work.
