Background: After a visit to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates I have been fascinated with things Arabic, especially faces. Apparently most cannot decipher differences in faces of a race that is unfamiliar to them. Not me. I sit and look at all the characteristics that give ethnic distinction and individual definition. I look at a face and think, that would make a great sculpture!
The stone used for this sculpture is a real character New Zealand jade. It has inclusions and feather fractures and was challenging to carve for this reason. The back has a beautiful deep concave to make the sculpture lighter for hanging on the wall.
My husband and I refer to this piece as Sheik your booty which is a Frank Zappa reference.
